Strategies of avoidance and tolerance of cold temperatures and low resources will be discussed. Analysis of physical and biological processes in seasonally snow-covered ecosystems. Includes principles of radiation and heat exchange, physics and chemistry of snow, thermoregulatory strategies in animals, and discussion of how winter affects trophic dynamics and population processes.
