Students are introduced to the basic concepts of the reading process by studying and using the major approaches to reading instruction (Intensive Phonics, Language Experience, Basal Reader, Linguistic, and Eclectic approaches including changed alphabets, words in color, and other means of individualizing instruction). Readiness, work recognition, and assessment of levels of comprehension are emphasized in lesson planning and practice teaching (Prerequisites: ELED1230, ELED2120, PSY2232).
