This is the entry-level course to the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) profession and is designed for those who aspire to become an Emergency Medical Technician- Basic. The course will focus on: EMT roles and responsibilities, airway management, patient assessment, medical and trauma emergencies, anatomy and physiology, documentation, lifting and moving, and communications. The course also includes practical labs and a total of 10 hours of clinical experience in the Emergency department to provide direct hands-on experience with a variety of patients. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be eligible to take the Washington State Certification exam and may be considered for the Pre-Paramedic Short Term Certificate. Current Health Care Provider (CPR) card required. Malpractice insurance fees are added into the registration. Immunization records must be presented the first day of class. A Washington state background check must be completed prior to admittance into this course.
