Focus on writing effective research essays analyzing international films. Emphasis on the composition process and the development of writing skills and evaluation sources, including prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and documenting. Introduction to film terminology and techniques and the major approaches used in writing essays about films, including film history, national cinemas, genres, auteurism, and formalism, and ideological studies. ENGL 108 partially fulfills the Communication requirement of the AA-Option B degree. Prerequisite: A grade of "C" or better in ENGL& 101 (or ENGL 101). Formerly ENGL115. Credit not allowed for both ENGL 115 and ENGL 108.

Continued studies in writing expository essays, focusing on topics in the life sciences and physical sciences. Emphasis on critical reading of published scientific research and appropriate use of peer-reviewed journals to support the writer s ideas. Expanding academic writing skills of pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, and documenting. This course is an alternative to ENGL& 102 for the communication requirement. Prerequisite: A grade of "C"or better in ENGL& 101 (or ENGL 101). Formerly ENGL 113. Credit not allowed for both ENGL 113 and ENGL 109.

Continued studies in writing essays of exposition and argument emphasizing the interpretation of literature, with focus on critical reading of literary texts and appropriate use of documented sources to support the writer s ideas. Expanding academic writing skills of pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, and documenting. English 110 partially fulfills Option B of A.A.-Degree Communication Requirement. Prerequisite: ENGL& 101 (or ENGL 101).
