The United Nations and its functions, current problems, and world reactions to them. Required for participation in the Model United Nations program. Entering students first register for 151, then subsequent sequence numbers for up to a total of 6 quarters. Participation in the Model United Nations requires enrollment in POLS 151 (POSC 151), the first of a two-year series. Students must contact the instructor during the first week of the quarter. An examination of the role of the Constitution and judicial interpretation in American politics and public policy. Primary emphasis is on the United States Supreme Court. Specific topics will include civil rights, civil liberties, economic regulation and property rights, and criminal justice. Formerly POSC 171. Credit not allowed for both POSC 171 and POLS 171. Prerequisite: POLS 111 (POSC 111), SOC 110, or HIST& 146 (HIST 131). [SE]
