Professionally supervised open lab course designed for MRAD students to practice skills in radiographic positioning, technique, or operating equipment and to demonstrate a wide variety of clinical proficiencies. Prerequisite: Currently enrolled in the MRAD program or permission of the Instructional Unit.

Designed for second year MRAD students who require more hands on training in a lab setting for skill development in radiographic positioning, technique, or equipment. Prerequisite: Currently enrolled in the second year of the MRAD program and permission of the Instructional Unit.

Introduction to basic aspects of the Diagnostic Imaging professions including work environment and expectations concerning dress, hygiene, attitude and behavior. Introduction to on-line course instruction. Shadowing component on campus for O day required. This course is required for admission into the Medical Radiography program. Hybrid course: Combination of traditional classroom setting and online website. Prerequisite: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in BIOL& 251, 252, or 252 (BIOL 231, 232 or 233) or permission of Instructional Unit.

Introduction to the principles, practices and policies in healthcare generally and radiology specifically. Topics include: the history of radiology, medico legal ethics, professional associations, orientation to x-ray equipment and basic principles of radiographic exposure. Concurrent enrollment required in MRAD 103 and 141. Prerequisite: Admission in the Medical Radiography program.

Introduction to basic patient care techniques commonly experienced in a radiology department. Techniques include: venipuncture, EKG placement, oxygen administration, and vital sign assessment. Also introduces concepts relevant to the patient s physical and psychological needs. Prerequisite: Admission in the Medical Radiography Program or Consent of Instructor and current documented paid or volunteer patient care experience of at least 40 hours.

Introduction to radiographic image processing using both traditional film and digital images. Topics include: darkroom chemistry, equipment, and procedures and computer hardware and software in the radiology lab. Concurrent enrollment required in MRAD 101 and 141. Prerequisite: Admission in the Medical Radiography Program.

Introduction to electromagnetic radiation and proper procedures for working safely in the radiologic environment. Topics include: sources and types of radiation, units of radiation measurement, conversions from traditional to system international units, protection and monitoring devices, operating equipment (including ancillary devices), and federal and state laws regarding radiation safety. Prerequisite: Admission in the Medical Radiography Program.

Introduction to the principles of physics that underlie the use of radiation in diagnostic imaging. Topics include: atomic structure, mechanics, electricity, magnetism, electromagnetism, radiation, x-radiation and x-ray image production. Concurrent enrollment required in MRAD 121, 142, and 151. Prerequisite: Completion of MRAD 101, 102, 103, 104, and 141 each with a grade of "C"or better and Consent of Instructional Unit.
