Explores fundamental characteristics of living matter from the molecular level to the ecological community with emphasis on general biological principles. Introduces the diversity of living organisms, their structure, function and evolution. Reading Level Requisite ENG 111. Writing level requisite ENG 3. May be taken out of sequence. Lecture 3 hours. Recitation and laboratory 3 hours. Total 6 hours per week.

Integrates anatomy and physiology of cells, tissues, organs, and systems of the human body. Integrates concepts of chemistry, physics, and pathology. Reading Level Requisite ENG 111. Presents a broad introduction to the functioning of business enterprise within the U.S. economic framework. Introduces economic systems, essential elements of business organization, finance, marketing, production, and risk and human resource management. Lecture 3 hours per week.

Teaches the fundamentals of supervision, including the primary responsibilities of the supervisor. Introduces factors relating to the work of supervisor and subordinates. Covers aspects of leadership, job management, work improvement, training and orientation, performance evaluation, and effective employee/supervisor relationships. Writing level requisite ENG 3. Lecture 3-4 hours per week.

Applies mathematics to business processes and problems such as checkbook records and bank reconciliation, simple interest notes, present value, bank discount notes, wage and payroll computation, depreciation, sales and property taxes, commercial discounts, markup and markdown, and inventory turnovers and valuation. Introduces office organization and procedures through the study of layout, work flow, standards, equipment, and centralized services. Exposes the student to the elements of office personnel administration and supervision. Discusses current office management trends. Lecture 3 hours per week.

Identifies management concerns unique to small businesses. Introduces the requirements necessary to initiate a small business, and identifies the elements comprising a business plan. Presents information establishing financial and administrative controls, developing a marketing strategy, managing business operations, and the legal and government relationships specific to small businesses.
