    This course focuses on learning the nursing process and its relation to major concepts of nursing care, including communication, therapeutic intervention, and decision-making. Students learn to assess the physical, psychosocial, and developmental dimensions of the client through active learning activities in the classroom and laboratory settings. Prerequisites: BIOL1220, BIOL2370, CHEM1220 and NURS2015

    In this course students have an opportunity to examine health care in China. Students will learn about Chinese history, culture and health care in classes on the RMU campus and then will have the opportunity for a two week study trip to China with stops in Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing. Final projects will be individualized to the students' majors. Students will meet 4 times in the spring semester prior to traveling to China.

    This course focuses on major concepts of nursing care, including therapeutic intervention and decision-making. Students learn to perform psychomotor skills with individual client needs as a priority. Classroom and laboratory activities along with simulated patient scenarios guide the student through the acquisition of basic nursing skills. Application of the nursing process and critical thinking is emphasized. Prerequisites: NURS2010, NURS2020, and NURS3030 or concurrent with all three courses Co-requisite: NURS0301

    As the first clinical nursing course, this course focuses on illness and disease management of the hospitalized adult with acute or chronic illnesses. Students will use critical thinking to implement therapeutic nursing interventions in managing the care of hospitalized adults. Common problems encountered in the care of adults will be emphasized. 5 credits (3 lecture, 2 lab) Prerequisites: NURS3015, NURS3030 and NURS2060 or concurrent with NURS2060 Co-Requisite: NURS0302

    This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental principles of drug action, and the mode of action for major drug groups. Identification and assessment of adverse drug reactions, drug-drug interactions and food-drug interactions are considered. Prerequisite: NURS2015

    This course introduces nursing research, based on the belief that research is integral to all levels of nursing practice. Students acquire the basic competencies needed to read, evaluate and interpret findings from clinical research studies. Use of technology in the research process is explored. Students examine opportunities to incorporate research findings into clinical practice and to become intelligent consumers of research. Prerequisites: NURS4031 and STAT2110 or concurrent with NURS4031

    This course emphasizes the promotion of health for mothers and their families. Self-care and empowerment are an integral focus in examining women's health from a developmental perspective. The nursing process provides the framework for students to assess and therapeutically intervene in promoting healthy childbearing and care of the newborn. Emphasis is placed on nursing care of the woman, the fetus and the newborn within the family environment. Concepts of human development of individual, family and community form the context in examining the nursing role of the professional nurse. The effect of cultural, social, economic and ethical influences as well as the impact of health care technology is discussed. (3 lecture, 2 lab) Prerequisites: COSK2220 or COSK2225, NURS3015, NURS3020, and NURS3030 Co-requisite: NURS0350

    This course provides theoretical perspective, science-based knowledge, and principles needed by students to guide their application of the Nursing process and choice of nursing interventions for children from infancy through adolescence who are experiencing physiological alterations. Emphasis is on the use of the nursing process to identify functional and dysfunctional health patterns in children within the context of the family system. Ethical and legal dimensions of caring for children and their families are discussed. The course includes clinical learning experiences in various settings. (3 lecture, 2 lab) Prerequisites: COSK2220 or COSK2225, NURS3015, NURS3020, and NURS3030 Co-requisite: NURS0355

    This course focuses on personal and professional ethics related to contemporary nursing. The process of ethical analysis and reasoning will be applied to a variety of patient and health care situations. Particular emphasis will be placed on political and religious controversy, economic consideration, cultural issues and professional commitment related to ethical dilemmas. 3 credits Prerequisite: NURS3020

    This course presents the knowledge base for using health promotion strategies and health assessment techniques with individuals across the life span from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The role of the nurse in promoting patterns of positive health behaviors is emphasized. The student is also provided with an opportunity to practice physical assessment skills in the laboratory and in a precepted clinical setting. Prerequisite: Admission to RN Completion Track
