In addition to history, this course will also include the impact and relevance of religion, geography, economics, and culture on the East Asian people. The historical metheods course is designed to introduce students to the methods and tools of historical thought, research, and writing, as well as the implications of the digital turn in the researching and writing of history. Particular attention will be given to research skills and related analytical issues addociated with the process of writing history, including the language, sources, organization, and style of historical writing. This methodological training will help students gain the necessary research, writing, and presentation skills to pursue graduate studies in history wihile also offering key skills for a variety of provessional settins beyond graduation. Prerequisite: 60 credits

This course is an introductory course that gives students an overview of the history of and current organization and operation of the American health care system. Students will gain an understanding of the major components of health care such as hospitals, physicians, pharmaceutical firms, long term care, home health and health insurance. Coursework will cover sources and uses of resources for each of these entities and the unique challenges that face managers in each portion of the system.

This course affords students an introduction to fundamental principles used in the administration of health care organizations based on micro-organizational theory. The course will orient students to the specific challenges of managing in hospitals, health insurance firms, long-term care facilities and other health care organizations. The course will emphasize group dynamics and the challenges of working in an environment that includes highly trained professionals with varied interests such as physicians, nurses and technicians. The course will also develop a range of skills necessary to manage in an environment that is patient centered.

Health Services Administration-II (three credits) will present on overview of the administration of health care organizations using a macro-organizational theory framework. The course will show how organizations deal with their environments and the types of overall strategies that are effective in a turbulent environment like health care. Prerequisite: HSAM1200

This course will present a survey of the managed care component of the health care industry. The course will develop a taxonomy of managed care organizations, understanding of managed care financing mechanisms and the incentives that they generate and will deal with specific challenges relating to organization, financing, legal issues and other aspects of managed care.(Course on checklist currently not offered)
