    This is a continuation of DANC 237 EA and continues the principles of contemporary, non-gender based partnering on a more advanced level. Course Objectives (1) Execute more advanced material while supporting another body in lifts, turns, falls and balances. (2) Confidently work out creative solutions in specific partnering projects. (3) Perform increasingly sophisticated repertoire selections. (4) Work in odd numbered groupings. (5) Demonstrate increased dramatic intent and more expressive elements in their partnering work.

    This course empowers students to develop the skills necessary in the critical analysis of dance as an art form, and the understanding of the basic principles of art and aesthetics. The course offers the exploration of diverse methodologies employed by master critics in analyzing dance, popular and emerging in the 21st century, and gives an in-depth look into the content and context of contemporary and historical choreographic bodies of work, the themes they explore, and the ways in which they relate to real life. Prerequisite: DANC 323. Course Objectives (1) Promote further inquiry in selected areas of dance philosophy and criticism. (2) Focus on fundamental quesitons of values in relationship to the arts. (3) Develop skills and language for analyzing dance in its various social/cultural contexts.

    The theory and practice of teaching correct dance techniques in order to assess and train students from low levels through advanced levels in a logical, progressive, and responsible manner. Course Objectives (1) Students will become acquainted with current issues and modalities in the field of teaching, especially dance teaching. Some of these include the "new pedagogy" vs. the "old pedagogy," "age appropriate" dance education, and multi-cultural issues in dance education. (2) Students will bring their education from various parts of the dance curriculum to apply to teaching. (3) Students will find a more body-knowledgeable approach to technique, whatever the style of dance. (4) Students will search for their own voices as teachers, using their backgrounds, experiences, strengths, creativity, feelings, opinions, personalities to provide self-assessment and self-empowerment. (5) Students will improve their own skills in terms of observing, analyzing, and appreciating dance works.

    This course provides students with a forum to develop choreographic skills, culminating in a completed work. A journal will document the process, and a thesis will conclude the work process. The course also provides guidance and structure for hands-on work in the areas of production, rehearsal and promotion areas which are essential to the performance of the work. Course Objectives (1) Maintain responsibility for the completion of the choreographic project (2) Choose dancers that will fulfill the choreographic needs of the work (3) Deal with diverse personalities of cast members (4) Handle in an organized and professional manner all aspects of bringing this project to completion in a performance and learn to work on a collaborative basis as an interactive team with all personnel involved in the completion of the project (5) Provide evidence of work done by documenting, in a Journal, the entire work process, which should be minimally thirty hours (6) Provide a Final Paper (3 pages typed) with sources quoted and additional pages for a bibliography (7) Complete the work of choreography on schedule for a public performance (8) Discuss their work in a public forum

    Students in this senior seminar will clearly articulate connections between dance and their outside field of study. Through examining their goals and interacting with guest speakers, students will design an independent research project that integrates their artistic and academic interests. Prerequisite: Dance Major. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (1) Prepare a Curriculum Vitae (CV) that outlines both artistic and academic accomplishments in a professional format. (2) Compose a Mission Statement that conveys their personal vision for their dance career. (3) Create a written project that details their Dance Lineage in relation to aspects of dance history. (4) Complete an Independent Research Project that connects dance to other fields of study. (5) Demonstrate ideals of "self-directed study" objective.
