    This course is a two, consecutive-semester, eight credit course, designed as the highest-level screenwriting workshop. This course has been created to facilitate to produce a capstone feature screenplay (or speculative television series screenplay and an original television pilot script) which will then be thoroughly revised, rewritten and polished during the second semester to create a viable, professional-level screenplay. This course will also have a one-hour lab where students assemble and present their writing portfolio before the screenwriting faculty for review and approval. Prerequisites: CINE 405. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (1) Heighten the ability to formulate effective cinematic stories. (2) Be able to pitch professional-level, commercially viable feature/TV ideas. (3) Prepare a professional-level treatment/synopsis for a feature film. (4) Prepare a detailed outline for the feature film. (5) Write a feature film script (95-125 pages). (6) Revise, rewrite and polish a feature film script. (7) Creation and defense of a portfolio of professional level writing samples.

    Students continue to develop a project for a written dramatic work that was conceived and completed in first draft form in CINE 453. Students will further develop the concept, prepare new beat outlines based upon their existing work (for analytical purposes), and revise and polish their first draft screenplay until it is highly polished and market-ready in regularly scheduled page assignment to be read aloud and discussed in class. Students continue to pitch their story in class and hone their drafts within classroom workshop readings with their fellow students and instructor. Emphasis is not only on the individual work created, but also in developing a successful working process upon which writers can rely throughout their careers. Prerequisites: CINE 453. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (1) Demonstrate the ability to develop a concept into a marketable screenplay or teleplay. (2) Develop a self-discipline and/or writing schedule to incorporate a rhythm to the development of the work. (3) Prepare for re-writing, revising, and polishing script pages with further research, character study to refine the dramatic structure of the story. (4) Demonstrate the ability to clearly articulate verbally and in the writing of the script and supporting materials, all aspects and elements your story (character arc, theme, plot points, etc.). (5) Execute a series of revisions and polish drafts that continually improve in overall quality while addressing specific storytelling problems that were identified in preceding drafts until the work is market ready. (6) Deepen knowledge of, and proficiency with, storytelling and cinematic structure. (7) Demonstrate the ability to analyze your own work, as well as the work of your fellow students, to identify story problems, and then develop and execute solutions. (8) Accept third party, professional criticism of your work and be able to incorporate suggestions and comments into future drafts.

    This Capstone course is designed to demonstrate a student's accumulated knowledge and training of the learning objectives in the Cinema Production Program. Students apply their cumulative skills in the creation of long-form, well-researched written thesis project and presentation with a focus on cinema arts. Students will also finalize their individual professional portfolios, which include a resume, cover letter, demo reel, and web presence. Overall the course will cover a spectrum of topics needed to transition form being a student to creating a professional career. Prerequisite: Senior standing. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (1) Analyze and critique an area in Cinema Arts that focuses on post-graduation interests. (2) Prepare a professional quality thesis project and presentation providing an overview of the research conducted. (3) Employ written communication skills in order to create a cover letter and resume. (4) Produce a professional-level creative demo reel and web presence that demonstrates the foundational skills and craft of a working professional in Cinema Arts.
