    The second cooperative education experience will provide students with an enhanced hands-on experience in industry. Learners gain practical experience, enhance skills gained in the classroom, and acquire contacts with professionals in business. This course requires students to complete 480 hours in the field, be evaluated by their supervisor and prepare a report. Students must be approved prior to beginning their co-op and should have a Q.P.A. of 3.0 or higher. This is a Pass/Fail course. Prerequisite: BMGT 280 & BMGT 380. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (1) Enhance their learning through the combination of theory and practical application by fusing work experience with classroom study. (2) Develop maturity, responsibility, self-dependence and enhanced interpersonal skills. (3) Understand and contribute to the organization's goals; understand and work within the culture of the group; plan and make decisions with others and support the outcomes. (4) Heighten their motivation to excel both in the workplace and the classroom. (5) Describe experiences via periodic reports and professional journals while developing technical knowledge by using state-of-the-art equipment. (6) Present projects including portfolios and evaluations resulting in comprehensive final reports. (7) Recognize the importance of ethical behavior in the workplace and develop a greater maturity.

    This capstone class requires students to interpret knowledge gained throughout their coursework in the University core and major program in order to conceptualize a business model (mission/vision/values), analyze a company's business model, and create a business operations plan for a theoretical organization. An e-Portfolio will be utilized for assessment purposes. Prerequisites: ACCT, BMGT, or ECON/FIN Major. 90 or more credit hours. ACCT 101 & 102; BMGT 201, 202, 300; ECON 201, 202; and any 1 course in the student's concentration area. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (1) Demonstrate technological proficiency of research methods, and be able to interpret (both orally and in writing) the business model of an organization. (2) Justify the legal business structure and be able to apply accounting, management, marketing, economics, and finance principles to for-profit or nonprofit organizations. (3) Assemble financial, operating, and marketing documents; and summarize the results for presentation to the class. (4) Assess the key ethical, political, economic, socio-cultural, historical, and environmental issues related to developing a business, and integrate this knowledge into the plans for operating a for-profit or nonprofit business.

    A general overview of the broadcasting industry, key historical events and people and study of the existing economic and regulatory forces acting upon it. Course Objectives (1) Recognize important figures in broadcast history. (2) Identify and define current trends in the broadcast industry. (3) Research and write about an important broadcast figure, historical period or element of technology. (4) Explain how the broadcast industry operates and identify professional opportunities, including programming, sales and management, and legal and ethical areas.

    This course provides an introduction to the terminology, technical and creative principles of single-camera video for electronic field production (EFP) and electronic news gathering (ENG). Students learn and apply the basic video production techniques of camera operation, aesthetic composition, sound, lighting and editing to create and produce short-form productions.Prerequisite:COMM105 Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to: (1) Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of preproduction, production and postproduction. (2) Critically analyze and deconstruct examples of EFP and ENG video. (3) Demonstrate proficiency in the operation of the tools used for video field production. (4) Produce videos that demonstrate an understanding of the technical and aesthetic principles of video needed for ENG and EFP. (5) Demonstrate a proficiency in editing video for ENG and EFP.

    Multi-camera video production and directing concepts and techniques are developed and applied. Students apply fundamentals of all multi-camera production crew positions, organize and direct crew personnel, and adapt multi-camera production skills for video productions. Course Objectives (1) Direct various television/video studio productions. (2) Use and speak the vocabulary and jargon of television. (3) Operate television studio equipment proficiently to communicate television/video messages. (4) Employ production teamwork skills in order to produce a cohesive message. (5) Develop television studio craftsmanship for creative and practical purposes. (6) Demonstrate abilities in all studio production positions. (7) Demonstrate safe working practices in order to maintain a safe situation.

    Study and practical experience at the WPPJ radio studio emphasizing the basic elements of radio program production and direction, including technical aspects, basic programming, scripting and the development of audio materials. Prerequisite: COMM 110. Course Objectives (1) Learn basic radio production terminology, procedures, music copyright and mechanical rights and practices (2) Learn how to do simple voice recording and editing, producing a single track 3-minute feature production (3) Learn how to mix multiple sound sources together to produce a :60 broadcast standard commercial or Public Service Announcement (4) Produce a broadcast standard multi-track 5-minute program
