THST 343: Oral Interpretation

The course examines the elements of form and structure in various kinds of literature, and applies that analysis to the craft of the performance. Studies begin with fairy tales, investigate modern and contemporary retellings of fairy tales, and continue with modern and contemporary short stories. The techniques of oral interpretation - different than those used in a studio acting class - focus on the meaning of literature via suggestive vocal dexterity and subtlety of revelation, rather than explicit action. Students are required to write papers analyzing the literature they choose to perform. Formerly TH 325Prerequisites & Notes Prerequisite: THPD 120 Open to majors in the School of Theater Arts only.
