ESL 096: Advanced Writing

In this course students work on perfecting the essay format examining the persuasive and expository essay in detail, as they continue to work on applying their knowledge of grammar to their writing. Writing a mini research paper as well as understanding the preparation necessary for this such as engaging in pre-writing activities to decide on a topic, gathering information about the topic both in and out of the library and organizing that information, are also key components of this course. Technology and the internet are an integral part of this class. An exit-writing test is given to support college admission.

Design and merchandising require basic knowledge that leads to good design and/or quality assessment. In combination with the basic apparel construction process, students acquire valuable apparel skills through supervised laboratory sewing experiences to work through manipulative techniques. Students gain artistic expression through investigation, precision, common sense and good taste, and selection and application of fabric and pattern.

This course is offered as an elective to Fashion Design students who have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher and wish to gain experience in the fashion design field. The student must submit a written proposal for the position to the Program Director for approval. A minimum of 90 hours of work and a detailed daily log of the experience are required. Prerequisites: ART 107, FSH 101 and 102.
