Explores the process of transforming plays and dances designed for live stage performance into movies- a process not unlike turning poems into paintings, inasmuch as it involves a different medium and a whole other language of expression. Credit for work undertaken toward performance in at least two College productions. Students are cast in choreographies by audition. They study techniques, theory, and history appropriate to mastery of the work in progress. Class/rehearsal and performance participation are mandatory. Readings provide a broad survey of community dance models from around the globe; as such, identifying the varying associations between dance and community takes on a sociological/anthropological approach.
