The main goal of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the great importance of theater in 17th-century Spain, as literary text and as performance. The works of major Spanish playwrights, such as Lope de Vega, Calderón de la Barca, and Tirso de Molina, will be studied from a historical, ideological, social, and literary perspective.
