This course is a broad study of the various elements and repertoire that constitute musical theatre. This study will examine the music, characters, plots of specific works relating them to the music, and artistic achievement, characters, historical significance, social relevance, and performance practices. Material will cover various aspects of musical comedy, operetta, cabaret, and opera. This is a general course for all students interested in broadening their awareness of the form.

This course is an introductory study focusing on fundamental principles and practices of visual and aural design for the performing arts. Analytical topics of study include history of design for the performing arts, script analysis, director and designer communication, and the integration of design elements into a unified production. Various design media will be introduced and be explored to effectively present concepts and designs.

This course will focus on the development of physical awareness of the vocal process through exercises in relaxation, body alignment and support of tone. Further development of actors voice in range, power, flexibility and articulation will also be explored. Preparation of readings in prose, poetry and dramatic monologue will be included.

This course consists of selection, adaptation, and presentation by adults of plays for young audiences; it includes a study of plays with suitable moral and social values.

This course is an introduction to the theory and practice of contemporary set construction properties, stage engineering, lighting and sound. Students will be introduced to the tools and specialized equipment of both the scene and light shops. Participation in production is required.

This course is centered around the theory and practice of theatrical make-up techniques. The course allows students the opportunity to design and create performance make-up. Offered alternate years.

This course emphasizes the design, history, and construction of costumes for theatre, television, and film. The emphasis will be on script analysis, research, and design concepts. Design construction projects allow the student to gain a greater understanding of the role of a costume designer in the theatrical process.

This course will provide an understanding of the origins, practice and literature of world theatre from prehistoric rituals through the 18th Century. Emphasis is placed on how dramatic literature and theatrical performances styles develop out of and react against prior artistic movements to reflect the political, social, economic, and cultural trends in each era. Offered alternate years.

This course will provide an understanding of theatrical performance and dramatic literature within the United States and around the world from he 19th Century to the present. Emphasis is placed on how dramatic content and theatrical styles develop out of and react against prior and contemporary artistic movements to reflect the political, social, economic, and cultural trends in each era. Offered alternate years.
