    An introduction to leadership, this course concentrates on identifying the traits of successful leaders, introduces the Leadership Assessment Program, and begins the process of self assessment. Confidence building is undertaken through physical and mental challenges. Oral and written communication skills are stressed. The course also offers basic first aid, white water rafting, rappelling, and rope bridging instruction, and an introduction to the Army's unique leadership environment. Participation in one weekend field trip is mandatory. Books, uniforms, equipment, and activity fees are provided at no additional cost to students.

    This course continues the development of individual foundation leadership skills and evaluation of leadership potential begun in MS 101. The focus of MS 102 is on acquiring practical skills. Training objectives include planning and organizing, problem solving techniques, further development of oral and written communication skills, time management, and sensitivity to challenges of implementing equal opportunity. Participation in one weekend field trip is mandatory. Books, uniforms, equipment, and activity fees are provided at no additional cost to students.

    An introduction to the Army as a profession, and to the leadership opportunities available through military service. Devlopment of basic soldier skills is begun, including drill and ceremony, land navigation, and basic rifle marksmanship. Students are exposed to the customs and courtesies of the service. Increasing emphasis is placed on physical stamina, including mandatory participation in physical training three mornings per week and an evaluated physial conditioning test at semester's end. Students will begin to transfer individual leadership skills to small-group-level applications, and will participate in one or two weekend field trips. Course objectives include further development of written and oral communication skills, problem solving techniques, planning and organization, judgement, initiative, decisiveness, and the concept of the leader as a follower. The course includes a one-hour Leadership Laboratory each week. Laboratory each week dedicated to applying classroom instruction. Prerequisite: MS 102 or permission of the Professor of Military Science.

    Training in this course builds competence in the basic military skills and dimensions of leadership that were the focus of MS 201. Small group leadership techniques are practiced at the team and squad level through rotating leader/follower positions. Participation in physical training sessions, Leadership Laboratory, and field training exercises is required. Prerequisite: MS 201 or permission of the Professor of Military Science.

    The Leader's Training Course is an intensive 5 week leadership development course run cooperatively by Army Military Science and Leadership departments nationwide. The course is run in multiple iterations at Ft. Knox, Kentucky with the purpose of providing an alternate means for college students to meet the prerequisites to enter 300 and 400-level Military Science and Leadership courses at colleges and universities nationwide. While enrolled, students are placed in an intensive training environment where they live, work, and learn in a cooperative group under 24 hour a day leadership instruction and assessment. Upon successful completion of the course, students return to their campuses and are able to contract to enter into the 3rd and 4th years of the 4-year Military Science and Leadership program.

    This course polishes foundation military skills, providing the technical background to support leadership of infantry-style units. Cadets rotate frequently through evaluated leadership positions and experience broader spans of control. Classroom instruction is augmented by a leadership laboratory, intensive physical training, and more frequent weekend field training. Prerequisite: Successful Basic Course completion or placement credit.

    This course continues the leadership development emphasized in MS 301. Cadets are trained in small unit (squad and platoon- level) battle drill, focusing on the technical and tactical components of mission accomplishment. Administrative control of units through company-size is reinforced. Troop leading procedures, principles of war, operations plans and orders, and commuication skills are stressed throughout. The objective of the course is to prepare the student for attendance at the six week ROTC Advanced Camp during the summer immediately following this semester.
