This course will explore child development from conception through adolescence and include a survey of growth, adaptation, and developmental patterns in infancy, childhood, and adolescence with implications for academic, emotional and social learning. The first half of the course will be organized in a topical man- ner and include basic concepts and theories of child development, applied directions of child development, research strategies, biological foundations of development, prenatal development, physical growth, cognitive and language development, personality and social development (including self, gender, emotional and moral development), and how context affects development (family, peers, media, school, etc.). During the latter half of the semester, course focus will be on the integration of this infor- mation from a chronological perspective. This will allow students to have an understanding of the developmental tasks associated with each period of development.

The purpose of this course is to teach students to design, implement, and evaluate interventions through progress monitoring for common behavioral problems. The course will also cover single subject design and applied, functional and experimental behavioral assessment.

Course content will include assessments as they relate to Developmental Delays, emotional disorders, and developmental disabilities. Course content will explore current definitions and diagnotic criteria, assessment techniques, behavioral, therapeutic, and educational strategies, effective support services, and family, school, and community systems issues.
