This course introduces students to the logic required for computer programming. Students will initially learn the concepts related to most languages including variables, assignment statements, branches, loops and subprograms. Students will also concentrate on the logic required to design a program before it is coded. During the second half of the semester, students will be introduced to the basic syntax of a specific programming language.

This course focuses on advanced programming methodologies and procedural abstractions based on the analysis of data structures and algorithms. Topics include the analysis and application of basic data structures such as stacks, queues, lists and trees. Methods include the use of sorting and searching algorithms on various implementations of lists and the use of recursion as a control abstraction as well as the comparison of these algorithms using "Big-O" notations.
