    This course addresses the application of research to improve educational practice through observation, intervention, training, and methodologies of shared planning and goal setting. Models of effective supervision and evaluation will be analyzed and practiced in a variety of situations.

    Students will examine leadership methods, strategies and tools for ensuring effective technology and communications strategies in schools and in the school community. The National Educational Technology Standards for Administratiors are a focus of this course. Students will explore and practice the use of technologies that are available to support today's adminstrator or principal. The course will provide comprehension examination of current issues related to the use of technology in education. Students will employ effective use of technology for communication throughout the course. The study will include practice with web-based tools such as Web CT, Web Pages, PowerPoint and the use of the internet.

    The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of major issues in school law. The course will focus primarily on case law including U.S. Supreme Court decisions as well as relevant state and lower court federal opinions. State legislation and administrative laws will also be considered. Topics to be covered include church/state issues, teachers and student rights, laws associated with equal educational opportunities, laws assoicated with students with disabilities, tort liability, collective bargaining, and tenure.

    Students work in various administrative roles for one year under the supportive mentorship of college officials and elementary or secondary school administrators. Students seeking certification as either elementary or secondary school principles will take EDG 640: The principalship simultaneously. Note: students desiring certification at both the elementary and secondary levels are required to complete internships at each level. Offered fall, spring.

    Students work in various administrative roles for one year under the supportive mentorship of college officials and elementary or secondary school administrators.   • 1.00 - 6.00 Credits

    Students work in various administrative roles under the supervision of college officials and a school administrator, serving as a mentor. Each course in the certification program includes practicum components, assignments and projects to contribute to a yearlong concurrent internship during the regular school year. The principal-mentor coordinates the activities representing each area of study. Note: The certification is now K-12. The internship may be done with experiences in both elementary and secondary schools. Offered fall, spring and summer. 3 credits, maximum of 6.
