    To help all students meet with success in school, educators must create a balance between meeting the needs of the entire class and meeting the needs of individual students. This course provides techniques for creating eduational environments where all students, paricularly those with special learning needs, have equal opportunity to develop academically as well as socially. This course will focus on structuring the classroom to promote literacy through formal and informal assessment, connecting assessment to curriculum, and adapting curriculum to meet students' strengths and needs using developmentally appropariate practices.     This course continues the study of literacy learning by providing techniques for creating educational environments for all students, and in particular, those with special needs. Assessment will be coordinated with curriculum and the development of the individualized education plan.     This course provides students who have a limited background in education theory or teaching experience with an understanding of the complex dynamics that affect contemporary education. A strong emphasis on reflection, classroom observation and a review of literature regarding current school practice provides the content of this course. Students are also introduced to the resources necessary for a more informed entrance into and deeper understanding of their future profession.     This course is designed for the assessment and development of instructional strategies for individuals with severe and porfound disabilities. The content of the course focuses on tests and measurements revevant to life skills, assessment of life skills and development of instructional strategies with an emphasis on inclusive practices.     Technolgy continues to play an increasing role in the education of students with disabilities and educators need to be aware of how such technology is incorporated into the classroom. This course is designed to give regular and special education teachers an awareness of available devices, adaptations, therapies, and services. It is not intended to make participants experts in technology. No prior technological experience is neccessary to enroll in this course, although students who have experience in the field will be invited to share their knowledge in class. Offered spring

There is an opportunity for students to examine an area of policy development and determine means for effecting change in education.     Focused on language, literacy and learning across the curriculum for grades one through nine, this course acknowledges the importance of integrating reading and writing to provide more meaningful learning and the most efficient use of instrucion. It relies heavily on the PCRP II framework and includes instruction, discussion, reflection and investigation of critical experiences presented in this document: reading, transacting with text, writing, composing texts, extending reading and writing, investigating language, curriculum and evaluation.
