The life and works of Moses Maimonides, great halakhist, philosopher, physician to the sultan of Egypt, prolific medical writer, and leader of Cairo's Jewish community. In addition to publishing a commentary on the complete Mishna, Maimonides codified Jewish law in the Mishneh Torah and produced one of the great philosophic works on Jewish thought in The Guide to the Perplexed. The course consists of lectures and readings from the latter two works. Prerequisite: Department approval. 1.5 credits.
