3, 3/0 Prerequisite: MUS 303. Lectures, readings, and recordings introducing principal musical traditions of selected non-Western cultures, such as African, Indic, and Sinitic. Consideration of the African American tradition, including jazz and rock. Includes individual projects of music or cultural analysis. Required for music majors.
