    This course will look at the ethnic and racial diversity of the contemporary United States and provide a historical context for understanding this diversity. By providing an understanding of the history and culture of the formerly colonized world, and the ideologies of domination used to justify colonization, the course will attempt to sensitize students to the diverse history of Americans. The course will introduce segments on recent American immigration such as Asian and Hispanic immigration. The course will also seek to provide a framework that places the United States within a global context of culture, politics, and economics. The course will also examine how American social movements such as the women's movement, and the Civil Rights movement have affected similar movements elsewhere, and to what extent these struggles in turn have reverberated and shaped contemporary American social movements. A His 158Z is the writing intensive version of A His 158; T His 158 is open to Honors College students only; only one may be taken for credit.

    The course explores the increasing predominance of visual media in contemporary life. It examines how traditional narrative forms of story telling are being replaced by visual forms of story telling in art, photography, film, television, the internet, video games, anime, graphic novels, and advertising. Particular attention will be paid to the global flow of visual culture and the technologies that facilitate these cultural exchanges. Readings include works by Walter Benjamin, Jean Baudrillard, Arjun Appadurai, Laura Mulvey, Susan Sontag, and others. T Jrl 220 is the Honors College version of A Jrl 220; only one may be taken for credit.

This course is for students with more than average ability and more than average interest in mathematics. Presidential Scholars with a strong interest in mathematics or the physical sciences should consider taking A Mat 118 instead of A Mat 112. A Mat 118 substitutes for A Mat 112 toward the prerequisite in any course. T Mat 118 is the Honors College version of A Mat 118. Only one of A Mat 112, A Mat 118, and T Mat 118? may be taken for credit. Prerequisite(s): three years of secondary school mathematics and permission of the instructor. Offered fall semester only. Open to Honors College students only.

    Curves and vectors in the plane, geometry of three-dimensional space, vector functions in three-space, partial derivatives, multiple integrals, line and surface integrals.     This course will explore the major composer/performers and music ideas of this improvisatory art form, with an emphasis on Charlie Yardbird Parker and his influence on the post-bop, modal and impressionistic forms that followed in the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Ornette Coleman. It will survey special topics including singers, Latin Jazz, Jazz Fusion, the creative movements from Chicago, and current trends. Only one of A Mus 223 and A Mus 323 may be taken for credit. T Mus 223 is the Honors College version of A Mus 233; only one may be taken for credit.

    Introduction to classical and modern logic with an emphasis on the theory and application of truth functions. Introduction to quantification; discussion of the structure and properties of formal systems of logic. Students should be prepared to do daily homework assignments.     An introduction to the fundamentals of physics.? Electrostatics and magnetism, including the concepts of the electric and magnetic fields, electric potential and basic circuits.? The laws of Gauss, Ampere and Raraday: Maxwell's equations. Geometrical optics.? Course content will follow A Phy 150. However, topics will be covered in more depth and at a more advanced level. This course is only open to Honors College students. Only one of A Phy 150 or 151 or T Phy 151 may be taken for credit. Offered in spring semester only.
