Nursing III is a study of needs and related nursing care in various age groups when common recurring interruptions occur in ability to meet need for oxygen, fluid and electrolyte balance, rest and activity (orthopedic), and safety and security (neurological). Included is a component specific to the special needs of children. The Nursing Process, with emphasis on analysis and goal setting, is utilized. Student participation in a variety of acute and community health settings provides an overview of the health care delivery system. College laboratory provides an opportunity for practice of nursing skills. A variety of clinical experiences provides for correlation of theory and practice. (Offered Fall semesters.) Restricted to Nursing students. Prerequisites: BIO 214, BIO 214L, NUR 112, PSY 210, SOC 101 or ANT 102. Concurrent requirement that may have prior completion: BIO 221, BIO 221L, ENG 101 and an elective. Current certification required in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) for the Professional Rescuer. Satisfactory physical examination with designated immunizations.

Nursing IV is a continuation of Nursing III. Emphasis is placed on commonalities of needs and nursing care which arise in various age groups when common recurring interruptions occur in needs related to protective mechanisms, (cancer), sexuality, nutrition, elimination, and higher level needs. Long term goals and the evaluation step of Nursing Process are emphasized. Medical-surgical, psychiatric, and oncological nursing experiences are provided in local agencies. Student participation in a variety of acute and community health settings provides an overview of the health care delivery system. A leadership/delegation component provides an opportunity for integration of prior learning, mid-management, and organization of priority needs in multi-patient assignment. (Offered Spring semester.) Restricted to Nursing students. Prerequisites: BIO 221E, BIO 221L, ENG 101, NUR 211, and PHA 250. Concurrent requirement that may have prior completion: ENG 102, NUR 213 and SOC 101 or ANT 102]].
