This course will involve the steps taken in physically constructing a Local Area Network (LAN). Through the use of lectures and demonstrations, students will gain an in-depth knowledge of network components in order to interface computers to the network, design wiring schemes, research costs, and develop proposals for building a network. Prerequisite: NET 105 and/or permission of the Instructor/Coordinator.

This course will provide the student with the opportunity to accurately calculate medication dosage utilizing the label factor method. Medications in simulated clinical situations will be incorporated giving the student experience with the label factor method in a practical setting. (Usually offered Fall semester.) Restricted to Nursing and Practical Nursing students. Prerequisite: Successful completion of all College Placement Tests. Concurrent requirement that may have prior completion: NUR 111.

Maslow's Theory of Hierarchy of Needs and Erickson's Developmental Theory are presented as a basis of understanding the conditions in which individuals develop as bio psycho social-cultural beings to the fullest degree. The Nursing Process, a problem solving approach, with a focus on assessment is utilized at a beginning level, to identify and meet needs necessary to maintain an optimal level of health. Psychomotor skills are developed, practiced, and evaluated through the use of the College and clinical laboratory. Scientific principles, Nursing Process, and psychomotor skills are correlated throughout the course with subsequent application in the clinical laboratory. (Usually offered Fall semester.) Restricted to Nursing students. Prerequisite: Successful completion of all College Placement Tests. Concurrent requirement that may have prior completion: NUR 105, BIO 213E, BIO 213L, and PSY 110. Current certification required in Basic Cardiac Life Support, CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Satisfactory physical examination with designated immunizations.

NUR 112, Nursing II, focuses on short term interruptions that affect an individual's ability to meet their needs, as described by Maslow, throughout various developmental stages. The Nursing Process, with emphasis on planning and implementation, will be utilized in assisting the individual to achieve an optimal level of health. Concentration will be on the individual who is experiencing a short term interruption due to surgery or pregnancy. Psychomotor skills will be developed and perfected through the use of the college and clinical laboratory. Theoretical principles and nursing techniques will be correlated throughout the course with subsequent application and evaluation in the clinical laboratory. Student participation in a variety of acute and community health settings provides an overview of the health care delivery system. (Offered spring semester.) Restricted to nursing students. Prerequisites: BIO 213E/L, NUR 111, NUR 105 and PSY 110. Concurrent requirement that may have prior completion: PHA 250, BIO 214E/L and PSY 210. Current certification required in Basic Cardiac Life Support, CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Satisfactory physical examination with designated immunizations.

Practical Nursing III is a study of needs and related nursing care of individuals in various age groups experiencing interruptions in their ability to meet needs for oxygen, rest, activity, safety and security. Included is a component specific to the special needs of children. The nursing process and critical thinking skills are utilized to develop a framework of care. Experience in clinical and college laboratory provide an opportunity for the application of knowledge and psychomotor skills. (Usually offered Summer Session 1.) Restricted to Practical Nursing students. Prerequisites: NUR 112, BIO 214, PSY 210, and PHA 250. Concurrent requirement that may have prior completion: Current Basic Life Support Certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, required. Satisfactory physical examination with designated immunizations.
