This course provides a broad overview of the experiences of American women from colonial times to the present. It will examine the social, cultural, political, and religious history of women of differing backgrounds. It will explore the history of women of different races, ethnicities, classes, and regions. (Offered Spring and Fall semesters, also on line.) Prerequisites: AAC 042 and ENG 099 or waiver though testing. Meets SUNY General Education requirement for American History (AH) for those with a NYS Regents Examination in American History score > or = 85

A survey of Native American cultures, including similarities and differences, their relationships with other American populations and their contemporary role in American society. Special attention will be paid to the Iroquois Confederacy and to the Indian point of view. (Usually offered Fall semester.) Prerequisites: AAC 042 and ENG 099 or waiver through testing. This course is a political, cultural and social survey of the development and expression of genocide and anti-semitism in western culture, beginning with its origins during the Roman Empire and following developments through the early twentieth century. A case study will focus attention on its ultimate expression during the Jewish Holocaust of World War II. The course will conclude by questioning, in the light of ethnic cleansing and holocaust denial, whether Western Civilization has learned anything. Prerequisites: AAC 042 and ENG 099 or waiver through testing.

The history of New York State focusing on the Niagara Frontier, along with adjacent Canada, from early occupation to the present. Topics covered will include the geographic setting, the varied populations, and the social, cultural, political, and economic development of the state and region. (Usually offered Spring semester.) Prerequisites: AAC 042 and ENG 099 or waiver through testing.

This course is a political, economic, cultural, and social examination of China¿s interaction with the modern world, starting with the West¿s uninvited use of economic imperialism and the destruction of the Dynastic system, through China¿s struggles to find a response to the West, to its reemergence as a regional power. The course will conclude by questioning whether China will become a superpower to rival the United States. Prerequisites: AAC 041 and 042, ENG 099.

This course is a survey of the American presidency from the ratification of the Constitution to the present. Primary topics include campaigns and elections, leadership and administration, Congress and the Supreme Court, domestic and foreign policy, the economy, and national and international crises (offered during presidential election years in Fall semesters). Prerequisites: AAC 041 and 042, ENG 099.
