This course will explore major trends in the recent history of Europe in four sections: first from the period of postwar reconstruction and the Cold War; next through the decades of the "economic miracle;" on to the period of experimentation with new political solutions like social democracy, neoliberalism and goulash socialism; and finally to recent decades attempting to reconcile economic and political unification with a new focus on the importance of local and regional identities.
