Topics include: creation of web pages, linking of web pages into a web site, inclusion of graphics, web-based form design, internet communication protocols, internet basic services, and markup languages. This course covers the design and use of practical databases. Fundamental definitions, data modeling, graphical form design, user interaction, queries and reports are examined along with the role of databases in contemporary application systems. This course covers the stages in the information system life cycle and the role of information systems in the workplace. Topics include: information system planning, including analysis of system requirements; formulation of requirements into recommendations; development of a framework for evaluating system alternatives, both hardware and software, that implement these recommendations; and methodologies for system design. For nonmajors. The prerequisite of 9 units of CLA courses is required.

This is a survey course of computer concepts designed for non-majors (satisfies the Computer Competency requirement). Topics include: fundamentals of hardware and software, uses and capabilities of personal computers, the Internet, and social, legal and ethical implications of computers. This course is an overview of the theoretical foundations of the mass communication field that introduces the student to important ideas that have been developed over the last century in order to explain the relationships among, communications media, society and culture. examples are drawn from all media from print to web in order to explore media's functions and effects.

This course examines the legal and ethical responsibilities of professionals working in print, electronic and new media. Students are introduced to the legal framework that supports freedom of speech and freedom of the press and examine the current laws of libel, invasion of privacy, copyright and newsgathering, as well as FCC and other telecommunications regulations. Students also examine ethical codes that guide media professionals and study conflicts that arise when legal and ethical principles conflict with real-world dilemmas. A Media Arts Screening is required for Electronic Media BFA, Print & Electronic Journalism BFA, and Public Relations BFA majors. Open to all other students without screening.
