CNPH 30600: Film Production: Short Poetic Filmmaking
3.00 Credits
Ithaca College
This course will focus on how to make short experimental films through the language of poetry. When words are used concisely to express emotions, the result may be poetry. Lyric poetry uses images, figures of speech, metaphors, symbols, rhythm, and frequently meter and rhyme to explore specific feelings. Film can do likewise. The rhythms of the poem are aural; the rhythms of the film are visual. In each case there is room for possible interpretations. Students will be asked to either write their own short poems or use any other poems of their choice in order to be able to translate the works of a poem into visual experimentation. This could be achieved by: 1) literal translation of words into images or 2) metaphorical translation of words into a visual form.
