Advanced concepts in experimental design for the behavioral sciences and overview of principles and techniques, including higher order analysis of variance designs, analysis of covariance, Latin square designs, trend analysis, multiple regression and factor analysis. This course surveys the history, methods, theories and applications of personnel concerns in organizations. Topics include: recruitment, testing, and selection; job analysis; training and development of employees; performance evaluation; compensation; job design, quality of work life and employee satisfaction; motivation and job commitment; employee stress and health; employee assistance programs. Diversity issues related to culture, gender and disabling conditions will be integrated with the above listed topics. An emphasis will be placed on case examples and practical applications of theory and research. Not open to students who have taken PSY 231. 4 credits. N

An examination of the historical and ongoing struggle to bring unity out of diversity in the analysis of human personality. The theoretical contributions, research approaches, and professional impact of major theorists are analyzed. Relationships among theories are considered under the general approaches of systems conceptions of personality, dimensional conceptions, cognitive-perceptual conceptions, contextual conceptions, and learning conceptions. 3 credits. This course explores the history and changing models of employee assistance programs focusing on clinical issues of drugs, alcohol and psycho-pathologies as they relate to the workplace. Students learn about practitioner professionalization, supervisory and union representative training and the use of community resources to address personal and health problems. Physiological foundations of behavior modifications; the development, anatomy and functions of the nervous system and the endocrine system; psychological reactions in neural dysfunction and problems related to endocrine disorders in terms of sensation, perception, learning and thinking. 3 credits. The examination of interventions designed to modify health-related knowledge, attitude and behavior. The design, implementation and evaluation of schoolbased, community-based and social marketing interventions will be discussed.
