The course will review managerial programs and practices intended to enhance individual and organizational performance. The major topics include planning and control functions, decision making, organizational design, human resource management, communication, leadership, motivation, work teams and innovation. Special attention will be paid to existing and emerging trends in technology and globalization. Also, consideration of ethical issues in managing people and resources will be emphasized throughout the course. Not open to students who have taken BUS 220 or 310. 4 credits. NLA. FT

The basic approaches, tools and techniques useful in the management of production and operations systems in both the manufacturing and service sectors will be covered. Emphasis is given to the complexities in both designing and operating the production and operations system. Not open to students who have taken BUS 320.     Developing and using management information systems effectively requires an understanding of business organization, management and information technology. The overall objective of this course is to expose the student to the full range of management issues raised by information technology. After an overview of the conceptual foundations underlying all information systems, the course deals with MIS applications within the individual functional areas of business and covers specific types of information systems including decision support systems, executive information systems, expert systems and office automation. MIS applications development is discussed, encompassing information resource planning, systems analysis, design and implementation. The course covers the management, control and security of MIS resources, and societal and international issues. Students will gain an understanding of business concepts and develop skills in solving management problems using software. Not open to students who have taken BUS 150 or BUS 300. 4 credits. NLA. ST

The major production configurations are discussed, i.e., projects, job shops and flow shops. Emphasis is given to the complexities in both designing and operating the production system.     The increasingly important and complex set of relationships among business, government and society will be examined. Topics for analysis and discussion include corporate social responsibility, business ethics, government regulations and the role of government in a market economy, corporate governance, employee relations, consumerism and product liability, environmentalism and economic growth, and the international dimensions of business. This course will provide the basic tools to understand and deal with social, legal and ethical issues in the workplace. Not open to students who have taken BUS 410. Prerequisite: Senior status. 4 credits. NLA. FT
