We will explore how graphic design can engage, inform and challenge the viewer as well as how the design of visual communication is influenced by social, political and cultural issues. All students with an interest in self-publishing are welcome to the class. The focus will be on the design, layout, and production of a publication from cover to the copyright page. You will learn through weekly assignments and readings about design, type, paper, and binding techniques. FORMERLY AR 3070 - ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN II - an intermediate design studio course. Informed by contemporary design theory, students synthesize site, environmental, urban, precedent and programmatic requirements in the design of small public buildings or installations.
