Beginning Literacy Development in Inclusive Classrooms (BEG LIT DEV CLASS) Theory- and research-based beginning reading and writing strategies for classroom teachers, K 3. The focus is on understanding the underlying processes that support strategies for young children in transition from spoken to written language, the development of phonemic awareness and invented spelling, the relationship between writing and reading, phonics and the use of multiple cue systems in early decoding and strategies for the construction of meaning. Assessment and Development of Literacy Processes: Birth Grade 6: Practicum I (LIT PROC B 6) Literacy educators adopt reflective teacherresearcher stances as they informally document and assess individual students reading and writing achievements while implementing instructional activities to promote literacy development in authentic settings for children from birth to grade 6. They design and/or select appropriate procedures for documenting, promoting, and evaluating learners strategies and proficiencies. Includes 25 hours of supervised practicum experience on-site. CTGE 6012 is open only to matriculated students who have completed a minimum of 9 credits in the program.
