Structure and function of nucleic acids and proteins and the genetic basis of human disease. Laboratory methodologies include analysis of proteins, including enzymes in clinical samples, and manipulation of microbial nucleic acids. prereq: MLS 354 5 hrs (2 lec, 3 lab), 3.5 cr.

Cell and tissue culture theory and techniques, including starting primary cultures, passing and preservation of cells, cell cycle and growth factor assays and monoclonal antibody techniques. Several informal hours are required each week in the lab in addition to the scheduled class. prereq: MLS 351 coreqs: MLS 347, 352 5 hrs (2 lec, 3 lab), 4 cr.
