This course will provide the theoretical and historical framework of Eastern Anatomy and Physiology. Students will explore the concepts of Qi, Blood, Shen, Jing, Yin/Yang, Five Element Theory, 12 meridian and vessel pathways, and their potential application to bodywork. Zang-Fu and Eight Principles will be introduced. The underlying causes of disease will be examined by analyzing the physiology and basic patterns of disharmony of each organ system. Students will develop skills in Qi palpation, self cultivation, and body/mind preparedness to practice Eastern bodywork. ( 3 semester hours) Fall

Introduces the key concepts and principles of cultural anthropology, with emphasis on cross-cultural and global perspectives. Discussed are cultural variations in language, marriage forms, kinship patterns, and religion as well as the current plight of traditional cultures. ( 3 semester hours) Fall

An introduction to the basic materials and methods of painting. Emphasis will be on color perception, mixing, application and on the control of pictorial space. Students will also learn preparation of grounds for painting and will work in acrylic and/or oil paint. ( 2 lecture hours/2 studio hours) (3 semester hours)

A general course involving hand building techniques to construct forms out of clay through coiling, slab construction, molding, and beginning wheel. Projects will introduce students to various ideas and uses of clay, both traditional and nontraditional. Creative work will be encouraged. Prerequisite For Fine Art Majors: AR 108. Through a series of weekly assignments, using simple materials and methods students will investigate the formal qualities of objects.
