The student will develop skill in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of the major individual intelligence tests. Open to matriculating school and counseling psychology students only and with permission of the graduate program director. Prerequisites: SPS5100 and SPS5302. Lab fee.

The student will develop skills in the administration, scoring, interpretation and integration of assessment instruments, including projectives; and evaluation procedures, both direct and indirect of children, adolescents and young adults. Study will focus on the assessment of the academic, preceptual-motor and social-emotional functioning of pupils. A focus will be on the development of report writing skills and the communication of results of the evaluation process to parents/guardians and school personnel. Open to matriculating school psychology students only and with the permission of the director of the Gradaute Psychology Program. Credit will not be given to both CPS6102 and SPS6104. Lab fee.

The course will assist students in developing behavioral management strategies, including classroom management. Prerequisite: SPS5300.

The purpose of this course is to bring together information on ethics, professional standards, and law pertinent to the delivery of school psychological services. The course will cover a host of legal and ethical issues unique to the field, including those related to students' and parents' rights to privacy and informed consent, the provision of culturally sensitive services to diverse clientele, counseling and therapeutic interventions in the schools, and educating all children with disabilities. Prerequisite: completion of 48-credit master's program. Student who receive a grade below a "B" must repeat the course.

A variety of academic assessment tools are reviewed including norm-referenced tests, curriculum-based assessments, and observation systems. The use of these techniques to assist in the identification of educational difficulties is examined. Approaches to interventions for educational difficulties are surveyed highlighting the link between assessment and specific intervention techniques. Students who receive a grade below a "B" must repeat the course.

The multicultural course is designed to provide an introduction to some of the cultural, socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic variables that impact service delivery in school psychology. Students will develop an understanding and appreciation of cultural and ethnic differences amond individuals, groups, and families. Students will enhance their ability to apply their knowledge in the area of multicultural issues to their personal lives as well as their professional work. The students will demonstrate competence in self-awareness, other awareness, cultural sensitivity, and an ability to access resources to provide more culturally appropriate services to children and families of color. Students will also show an ability to indentify possible culturally relevant solutions to ethical conflicts/dilemmas. Prerequisite: SPS6108 and SPS6190. Students who receive a grade below a "B" must repeat the course.

This course will focus on the theory and practice of school psychological services, including current as well as best practices, legal requirements, historical developments and trends in the profession.

Externship of 1,200 hours in public schools. The externships will allow the student to refine assessment, counseling and behavior skills. The externship will be structured to meet the requirements for certification as a school psychologist by the New Jersey State Department of Education. Supervision will be provided on site, as well as by the University supervisor of externs. All required course work must be complete prior to taking externship. Prerequisite: SPS6190. 3 credits.
