Readings in Spanish. Prerequisite for Spanish majors: SP221;222 or equivalent. 3 hours lecture, one semester; 3 credits. Applicable to Women’s Studies and Latin American Studies minors with Spanish background.

Spanish language and culture in the 21st century: an eclectic approach toward proficiency in the communicative classroom. Study and experience of various methodologies and strategies that encourage communication, cultural understanding and tolerance as well as furthering the teacher’s own proficiency according the the ACTFL (American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages) Proficiency Guidelines. Hands-on experiences including total physical response, total physical response storytelling, cooperative learning and other proficiency-based activities. Overview of holidays celebrated in the Hispanic community as well as culturally based games, songs and folk arts. Prerequisite: SP211 Spanish Conversation and Composition or equivalent. 3 hours lecture, one semester; 3 credits.
