This course is an introduction to the African-American historical experience from the 1440's to 1865, beginning with West African societies and their relations with European explorers and traders. It concludes with the end of slavery in the United States. Students explore the economic, social, political, intellectual, and psychological dynamics of African, Caribbean, and African-American life and the intra- and interracial relations.
