Scientific research and theories related to the psychology of stress will be reviewed as well as the addiction recovery process. Content will include an overview of careers, salary, professional organizations, educational preparation, credentialing, career mobility, and employment projections for the various health care professions. In addition, students will receive techniques to improve study and test taking skills. Students will explore health care ethics, legal responsibilities, health care reform and health care organizations.     This course is designed to educate the student in application of waived laboratory testing performed in laboratories and other medical facilities that perform laboratory testing. The designated laboratory testing is not required to be performed by a certified laboratory professional. The student will study the medical significance of the procedure, appropriate specimen collection, and the technical performance of such procedures. Laboratory ( 30.00)

    This course is designed to educate the student in theoretical and technical aspects of the art and science of phlebotomy. A combination of lectures, demonstrations, and a student laboratory application, which includes the focus of study on blood specimen collection, adult and pediatric venipuncture, and capillary collection, will be used during this course. The student will have the knowledge needed for clinical experience, though no clinical experience is included in this course. This course does not result in phlebotomy certification. It is intended for health care students that will have venipuncture as part of their profession. Examples of such professions are, but not limited to: nurses, medical laboratory technologists and radiologic technologists. Laboratory ( 30.00)

    This is a selective course based on the student's academic performance and recommendation by instructor in the prerequisite course, ALH-115. Non-native, English-speaking applicants must have completed an approved ESL program and receive an iBT TOEFLE score of no less than 20 in each section of the examination. This course will continue the phlebotomy didactic information plus a clinical rotation at an affiliated institution as is required for the student of phlebotomy to successfully complete an 120-hour clinical assignment with a described number of successful phlebotomies; where the student will establish competency in accordance with the National Accrediting Agency of Clinical Laboratory Science's Program Approval Committee for Camden County College's phlebotomy program.     This course is designed as an orientation to hospital and home-based care, which leads to clinical competency in other areas of health care. This course exposes the student to a variety of hospital settings, assisting patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. As part of this course, the home care/hospice module leads to certification as a home health aid (CHHA) if the student so desires which broadens the student's skill base, credibility and competency level. A one-hour review is given within the course content to encourage students to take the certification exam. This course offers students the opportunity to become certified in basic life support, American Heart Association-C (AHA), required by hospitals. Medical terminology and hospital abbreviations are incorporated into the content to familiarize students with commonly used terms and phrases in the hospital setting. Students are responsible for test fees associated with the Certified Home Health Aid and American Heart Association exams (approximately $100.00) and for the required physical health exam and test for tuberculosis.
