Class includes: exploration of art education curricula and instructional methodology for grade 6-12; understanding visual development and the use of appropriate materials and processes for grades 6-12; surveying and development of curriculum materials, including lessons and develop teaching skills; and using performance-based assessment through portfolios, journals, observation, interviews, and structured discussion groups. Also listed as ART 3623. Observation hours required. Prerequisites: ART 1213, 2163, and 2613, or permission of instructor. Course rotation: Offered as needed.

Included are discipline strategies and an introduction to the Kentucky Teacher Internship Program. The study of the philosophies and organization of instruction in the middle grades, methods for the teaching majors, discipline strategies, and classroom management techniques. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the Teacher Education Program, EDUC 3213 and EDUC 3323.

Acquaints the student with classroom organization, discipline strategies, and classroom management techniques. Designed as a culminating experience prior to student teaching that prepares students for effective classroom management in rural/small-school settings. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the Teacher Education Program and EDUC 3403.

The student-teacher is expected to observe systematically expert teaching and to engage, under supervision, in the conduct of class sessions. The student-teacher also is expected to acquire skills in, and familiarity with, the co-curricular activities of a teacher. Personal and group conferences and systematic supervision by faculty members are part of this requirement. Open only to students who have been approved for this part of the program. Corequisite: EDUC 4603. Grading: Credit/No Credit.

Taken during the student teaching semester, this course studies the curriculum, methods, media, computer software materials, and instructional procedures in the content areas in secondary education with an emphasis on field experience. Corequisite: EDUC 4493.

For speakers of English as a second language. Focuses on improving the skills of reading and writing. Includes work on increasing active and passive vocabulary, improving reading comprehension, and strengthening the skills of expression and coherence when writing in English.
