EDEX 4300: IEP Writing/Legal Issues in Special Education

This course is designed to introduce the IEP writing process, legal mandates, and issues associated with this special education process. Students will be prepared to adequately write and complete an IEP at the conclusion of this course. Clinical and field experience required. Prerequisite: EDEX 3301 or EDEX 3302 AND EDEX 3303. Offered during the fall semester of odd-numbered years.

Candidates teach for fourteen weeks of full days under the guidance of experienced, practicing special education teachers at either the elementary or middle school levels. If the candidate is placed at the P-5 level, this program ensures that the candidate receives middle grades special education placement for seven of the fourteen weeks. If the candidate is placed at the middle grades level, this program ensures that the candidate receives P-5 special education placement for seven of the fourteen weeks. Students are also supervised by their college supervisor.
