AME 44099 Special Studies introduces the physical phenomena of sound as propagating compressive waves. The following topics are studied : 1. The speed of sound propagation, the spectral decomposition of sound, sound tones and broadband noise. 2. Sound measurements and the decibel scale. Filters. 3. The wave equation and the propagation of sound in free media. 4. Elementary solutions: plane waves, monopoles, dipoles and quadropoles. 5. Absorption, reflection, refraction and diffraction of sound. 6. Propagation of sound in ducts. 7. Room acoustics. 8. Aircraft noise. 9. The physics of musical instruments.

BSEN 30310 Biofuels and Renwable Energies at UCD; This module will introduce you to the principles of renewable energy systems. The course starts by looking at energy and fuels and the conversion of energy to work by internal combustion engines. The course looks at advances in fuel production and development from renewable and sustainable sources. The impact of fuel production on land use such as for food and fibre is also covered and the interactions between fuel, feed, food and fibre costs and environmental impacts is assessed
