This semester-long course provides approximately 96 hours of classroom instruction (equivalent to 6 semester credits). The goal of the course is to provide heritage learners with some Chinese speaking proficiency the opportunity to hone their reading and writing skills through written assignments on contemporary Chinese topics. This course also continues to improve learners' Chinese speaking skill through communicative contexts. Through the course, students will be able to improve their reading and writing ability. Approximately 600 frequently used Chinese characters will be learned. Students will also expand their ability to carry out conversations in Chinese on a wide range of daily-life topics. This course is designed for heritage learners with some Chinese speaking proficiency and limited reading and writing skills.
