Direct and iterative methods for solution of algebraic equations and systems of linear equations, nonlinear equations, sets of equations, and ordinary differential equations are discussed. Specific topics include matrix inversion, interpolation, approximation of functions, and curve fitting. This course stresses both numerical analysis and algorithmic aspects. Prerequisite: MA240 and MA410. (Offered Spring Semester.)

This course is an introduction to mathematical aspects of statistics. Topics include exploratory data analysis, parameter estimation, maximum likelihood estimators, sampling distributions of estimators, testing of hypothesis, nonparametric methods, linear statistical models, and simulation. A basic film and video analysis course that deals with the formal elements of the visual media (light, color, composition, movement, editing and sound). Media Aesthetics is designed both for persons who plan a career in some area of film or video production and for persons who simply want to improve their understanding of video and film forms.
