EDUC 196: Foundations of Reflective Teaching

The first course taken by all education students seeking the baccalaureate degree. This course is designed to introduce students to the profession of teaching and to the philosophical foundation for teacher education at USI—the Reflective Teaching Model. It introduces students to the program requirements for all teacher education programs. The course examines the nature and functions of schools, using philosophical, historical, and sociological perspectives. Students will explore the ways in which the preservice teacher’s beliefs (especially about knowledge, ethics, and human life) influence educational outcomes by helping to shape classroom life.
