3 cr. LEC 3 hrs. Pre-req.: LST 190 and LST 195 Credit will be given for either LST 196 or ENG 196. This course focuses on the refinement of legal analysis and legal writing skills. Students learn to synthesize cases and research legal issues through complex projects using computer technology and the Lexis system. Research findings are expressed in legal written form.

Pre-req.: ENG 041, ENG 042 or appropriate placement test score Co-req.: LST/POL 110 This course provides an introduction to the substantive concepts of family law, including divorce, custody, visitation, support, distribution of property, separation agreements, and adoptions. A study of procedures, forms, and document preparation is conducted.

Pre-req.: ENG 041, ENG 042, MAT 050 or appropriate placement test score This course covers the more common forms of wills and trusts; surveys the fundamental principles of law applicable to each; the organization and jurisdiction of the Probate Court; analyzes the administration of estates in private; and reviews estate and inheritance taxes. The course provides an examination of forms and document preparation.

Pre-req.: ENG 041, ENG 042, MAT 050 or appropriate placement test score This course studies the more common types of real estate transactions and conveyances, such as deeds, contracts, leases, recording and search of public documents, agreements of sale, surveys and legal descriptions, mortgages, and title abstracts.

3 cr. LEC 3 hrs. Pre-req.: ENG 041, ENG 042 or appropriate placement test score This course examines stages of civil lawsuits, from pre-trial preliminaries through trial and post-trial procedures. The course covers gathering information through client interviews, drafting of pleadings, motions, and other documents; discovery and disclosures; and preparation of briefs and memoranda.

Pre-req.: ENG 041, ENG 042 or appropriate placement test score This course introduces the elements of tort law: negligence, duty of care, foreseeability, proximate cause, breach, damages and recovery, specific torts, and their defense. The course examines pre-trial, trial, and appellate procedures.

This course provides an introduction to administrative law, and a review of administrative agency activities, including the sources of administrative law, delegation and limitation of agency authority, due process, rule making, adjudication, and judicial review.

Pre-req.: LST 140 Co-req.: LST/POL 110 The goal of this course is to allow students to gain an increased knowledge of terminology and procedures utilized in the practice of criminal law. Students have the opportunity to review definitions of criminal offenses for future research for employers. Students are given text-book reading assignments, library research tasks and writing assignments for the preparation of documents and pleadings similar to those which may be required by future employers.

3 cr. LEC 3 hrs. Pre-req.: ENG 041, ENG 042 or appropriate placement test score Credit will be given for either LST 250 or SOC 250. This course is an introduction to the emerging field of elder care law, covering the areas of advance directives, wills, and guardianships. Special attention is focused on patients' rights in health care decision-making and the entitlement programs of Medicare and Medicaid. Subjects covered include managed care, long-term care insurance, living facilities for the elderly, and financial planning for aging and elderly clients.

3 cr. LEC 3 hrs. Approval of professor This course provides an opportunity for the student to integrate classroom learning with a practical work experience in their chosen career field. Internships are available in both the public and private sectors.
