3 cr. LEC 3 hrs. Co-req.: ENG 140 This course explores the ideas and events of the twentieth century. An emphasis is placed on the evolution of belief systems such as Communism and Fascism. Additional attention is paid to the emergence, escalation, and impact of the Cold War in global relations since 1945.

3 cr. LEC 3 hrs. Co-req.: ENG 140 This course centers on tracing the changing patterns of American immigration and immigration policies from 1870 until the present. The course addresses the historical conflicts of assimilation and inclusion of racial and ethnic minorities into the American mainstream, both socially and politically, since the turn of the last century.

2 cr. LEC 1.5 hrs; LAB 1.5 hrs; Lab Fees: $45 This course studies and practices the principles of physical fitness. The development and application of personal fitness programs is emphasized. Students determine individual levels of cardio-vascular fitness, muscular strength, body composition and stress.

3 cr. LEC 3 hrs. Credit will be given for either LST 110 or POL 110. This course provides an examination of the historical basis and the current structure of the American legal system, including the legislative, judicial, and executive functions. The course provides an introduction to the substantive and procedural aspects of law, including contracts and business, real and personal property, torts and negligence, criminal law, family law and wills and estates. Ethical responsibilities are stressed throughout.

3 cr. LEC 3 hrs. Pre-req.: ENG 041, ENG 042 This course provides an introduction to the Law of Contracts, including the common law of contracts and the Uniform Commercial Code. Topics reviewed include: the nature of an agreement, offer; acceptance and consideration; determining, interpreting and understanding the terms of a contract; contract performance, and breach and defenses; and third party rights and remedies.

Co-req.: ENG 042 or appropriate placement test score This course provides an introduction to the American legal system, paralegal careers and employment, regulations of paralegals, and paralegal and attorney ethics. Paralegal skills, including legal analysis, interviewing and investigation, the use of computers in a law office and law office administration, are introduced.

3 cr. LEC 3 hrs. Pre-req.: ENG 041, ENG 042 or appropriate placement test score Credit will be given for either LST 195 or ENG 195. This course surveys basic legal research techniques; examines judicial decisions, statutes, administrative regulations, digests, encyclopedias, and other publications. It emphasizes legal writing and terminology, including legal forms and document formatting.
