    3 cr. LEC 3 hrs. Pre-req.: PSY 101 Co-requisite: ENG 140 Credit will be given for either EDU 284 or PSY 284. This course surveys the principles of psychology as applied to the classroom and emphasizes how learning processes are affected by environment, experimental, and developmental factors.

    1 cr. LEC 1 hr. This program is designed to teach techniques for basic airway management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and management of foreign-body airway obstruction for the adult, child, and infant. The student will also become familiar with the automated external defibrillator (AED), and will become proficient in its use. This program meets the requirements of the American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. This program will be taught by a certified CPR instructor. Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a course completion card from the instructor's training affiliate.

    6 cr., LEC 5 hrs; LAB 3 hrs. Coereq.: EMS 100 This class meets the requirements of the National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration's Emergency Medical Technician-Basic: National Standard Curriculum. The class is designed to instruct a student to the level of Emergency Medical TechnicianBasic (EMT-B). The EMT-B serves as a vital link in the chain of the healthcare team. The student will learn all skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support (BLS) level with an ambulance or other specialized service. Upon successful completion of this class, the student will be eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT-B Certification Examination, which is required to obtain NJ State and/or National Registry certification as an EMT-B.

    LEC 3.5 hrs This program will train students to provide emergency care to victims experiencing a medical or traumatic emergency. Specifically, this program will teach the techniques for advanced first aid, basic airway management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and management of foreign-body airway obstruction for the adult, child, and infant. The student will also become familiar with the automated external defibrillator (AED), and will become proficient in its use. Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a course completion card from the instructor's training affiliate.

    3 cr., LEC 3 hrs. Prereq.: EMS 101, BIO 150 This class is specific to the unique needs of the prehospital medical provider. It is designed to provide pathophysiological principles to the emergency care of medical disorders and traumatic injuries. This program is intended to provide the student with an appreciation for the human body in health and disease. This program will also help the student to improve their use of medical terminology.

    3 cr., LEC 3 hrs. Prereq.: EMS 101, COM 105 This program will combine medical case studies, scenarios, and role-playing to improve the student's patient assessment and scene management skills. Topics include airway management, assessment and management of medical and trauma patients, medical/legal issues, special documentation situations, and response to biological and chemical terrorism incidents.

    3 cr., LEC 3 hrs. Prereq.: EMS 101, AHP 145 Principles of EMS Administration is a class designed to provide prehospital care professionals with the necessary tools to be effective and successful managers. The class will study basic management principles including recruitment and retention, human resources, Emergency Medical Service operations, risk management, marketing, quality improvement, and fiscal policy. This program is designed to provide the student with the leadership tools necessary to make them a more resourceful administrator.

    3 cr., LEC 3 hrs. Prereq.: EMS 101 EMS responders are often called upon to respond to emergencies involving pediatric and geriatric patients. Care of these age groups is very different from others. This program will combine lecture, case studies, and scenarios, designed to improve the student's assessment and management skills of these special populations. Topics include care of medical and trauma emergencies in both the geriatric and pediatric population, and care of patients with special healthcare needs. This class is designed to improve the student's comfort-level while providing care to these special populations.

    3 cr., LEC 2 hrs.; LAB 3 hrs. Prereq.: EMS 101 This program will combine classroom lecture and demonstration with practical laboratory experience to introduce EMS track students to the most common special operations encountered by EMS providers. Topics will include an introduction to tactical EMS operations, technical rescue operations, and considerations specific to EMS response to CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive) incidents.

    3 eq. cr. LEC 3 hrs.; LAB 1 hr. This course reviews basic writing skills. Content will include grammatical rules and effective paragraph and essay writing. The course is designed to review writing and prepare the student for success in English Composition I (ENG 140). Completion of this course with a C or better satisfies the placement test requirements in writing.
